I know that the last thing anyone should be doing if they have to evacuate is get online, but I thought since everyone is scattered all over this city we might go ahead and post up as anyone hears they might need to evacuate in the near future, so that if the time does come and you have no where to go someone on here might be able to lend you a hand.
so if you are in an area that has heard that you need to be ready to leave at any moment and might need help if that does happen or you just would feel better chatting about it post up here. The 211 number, while helpful, seems to be a bit behind as my mom apparently saw the San Marcos fire at 2am but no one was reporting it until this morning; so also post up inside info that might help someone.
The idea is just to be helpful to those that might need it and stay in touch so that no one gets stuck alone dealing with this.

I had to do some work at Painted Rock elementary in Poway, couldnt get to that. It's all closed. I tried to head downtown, couldn't get out of escondido . So much smoke it gets in your vehicle and you can't breath. The wind was very strong. Center City Parkway is littered with trees that have fallen.

I know Cbad is on alert now as well, Im not too worried yet since its just east of CSUSM but with these winds who the heck knows....seems to be moving fast and I might just have to leave because of the smoke....the skies are getting darker by the second

CDF planes can't fly with this much smoke and wind. That's the key to getting a grip on the fire. This is horrid.

It has a shutoff valve on it. Set it to the OFF position. An open gas line doesn't help when they are trying to put out a fire.

This news 8 site has information for Evacuation,
EVACUATION SHELTERS, ROAD CLOSURE, and HOMES DESTROYED.
Don't wait for a phone call if you feel unsafe in your area, a lot of people are not getting calls that are very close to the fires.
Tonight if you are in an area that is not in immediate danger, you may want to sleep in shifts so someone is up in your neighborhood on "fire watch".
SDGE are saying not to turn off you gas.
Limit the use off your cell phones.
Text messaging is less taxing on the mobile systems and tend to make it through when you can't make a call.
The above info has been stated on some news stations.

A check valve prevents reverse flow of gas. The only theory behind SDGE's comment I could see , is that they don't want people touching their meters. Many times you will see a burned down home, and a flame on the side of thge property or in the middle. That would be an open gas line. I can't imagine how turning off your gas is a bad thing. Like I said, some people were saying to turn your spriklers on during the Cedar fire on TV. Nice. You get a green lawn and a burned down house. Don;t trick yourselves into thinking you can fight a fire with a garden hose.

Voluntary Evacuations are underway in the following Chula Vista neighborhoods: All of Bellalago, all of the Woods at Eastlake, areas of San Miguel Ranch and areas of Rolling Hills Ranch.

Usually about 50% of the hand crews stay around for a few days to keep the flare ups to a minimum when it's dry like this. But the rest should move right along to the nearest hotspot.
I used to work for CDF, and it pisses me off when shit like this happens because I've witnessed the fire chiefs react slowly to fires when there hasn't been a large one in a while. Just so the MFer's can use their whole budget up and collect their huge fire salaries. Not saying this was anyones fault, but there is always the little guy in the back of my head that says this could have been prevented if they reacted faster, because I've seen some of the bullshit "logistics" they pull in the past.

oh dont tell me that, I was stoked that they all seemed to work so damn hard to do their best to get most of these fires as controlled as possible....I think they are doing a great job so far considering how much of a nightmare this was this morning and looked like all of SD County was gonna be gone by the end of the week.
long way from being over but Im starting to have higher hopes now....
encinitas residents are also returning home so I take it as a good sign that CDF thinks that they can also contain the RSF fire soon.

If you guys ever see an f-550 type box truck that is a light lime green that says HOTSHOTS on the side, give them a thumbs up, those are THE hardest working people fighting fires. A close second is the pilots, those guys are really good also.

10-22-2007, 07:24 PM
I don't see the issue with the gas line thing. Leave the house turn it off, if you're fortunate enough to have a house when you return, turn it back on & light the pilots. Its not rocket science.
I wondered the same thing, but with so many old gas meters turning them off might create a gas leak because the valves dont work right. Thats the only thing that made any sense to their reasoning.

Advisory evacuations have been ordered for the following neighborhoods of Del Mar: East Side of Crest Road, Oribia Road, San Dieguito Road, Avenida Primavera and Serpentine Drive.
Residents in all other neighborhoods within Del Mar are encouraged to prepare to evacuate to Qualcomm.

When I was returning from OC last night, I saw 8 engines from Marin County that were on I-5 S at San Clemente. Figuring it's about a 10 hour drive from the Bay Area, I'd say dispatching was already being done.

loren nancarrow is reporting from RSF on channel 10, hes a local, the wind shifted and its moving back sw back into RSF, it just flared up
bridges has private water tankers and he said its pretty safe, but would be the first development to be hit in its path but he says its still a good distance away from the bridges.....nancarrow lives in RSF so he knows the area well and so Im taking his word as being most accurate Ive heard so far

You have been in my thoughts Ben. Glad you got out. I know that area right where you live at. I have two friends parents and parents in law that live right off Duenda, and another in westwood just a block or two, or less from what is happening.
Agreed about the local news not saying shit, they just repeat themselves and lack giving any useful info.

7499 Vista Rancho Ct., Rancho Sante Fe just burnt to the ground, no other homes on that street were harmed, isolated event, but it does appear that the fire line is del dios heading south and it arc up and around the north east end of the Bridges

and from someone who has a house in the Bridges:
Ok, I just talked with my dad who met with one of the top Bridges guys that was there all day long working with the fire fighters.
Everything was fine, but it started up again around where that Nursery is and up on Cielo Mtn (they are pretty sure a couple of the Cielo homes have been lost, but they can't get up there). And that Nursery is only about 100 yards from my backyard, just on the other side of the fence that's the eastern boundary of the Bridges. (That area directly to the right of the red dot on my map)
Odds are, we'll be fine, because they are bocking it from going west into the property, plus, eventually once all that area is totally burned, the fire won't be able to threaten that boundary again. AND, in the Bridges itself, there isn't really a lot of "fuel" right up against the homes, plus all the golf course is totally soaked from the sprinklers so they make more of a buffer. The only thing they are really worried about that could get us, are flying burning embers that start new fires anywhere.
We're still probably another 24 hours from being totally out of the woods. Good luck and prayers to everyone.

all of the designs in the Bridges, Santaluz, and Cielo have pretty strict fire control zones as far as vegitation because they're relatively new. The wind is their enemy. It's the older areas in the Ranch that will get fucked if fire gets in there. I worked on the property adjoining the RSF fire station and it's all old ass Euc's and steep slopes

How's the growth behind your house? Are there any firefighters burning a gap around there?

I just took a drive down Via rancho with a full view to Del Dios/rsf. I think we may have gotten luicky in South Esco. the fire has shifted and you can clearly see the ring of fire headed to RSF. You can also see a fairly good sized ring of fire in the Cielo hills. Besides a ton of smoke. Nothing else seems to be burning towards escondido. The weather is supposed to change at 3am or so. Kicking the winds back up . Hopefully things hold up.

there is suppose to be a lot of military and national guard help coming in the morning. A friends brother is an airforce pilot who was on leave and was called back in, goes into the air tomorrow, just gotta hope the wind stays calm through the night and the firefighters can hold it off till morning.
good luck to everyone and I hope everyone is ok and able to check back in with good news tomorrow.

Well my dad lives up in ramona, it was a pretty shitty situation. they told everyone to evacuate sunday night but half the town couldnt evacuate, so my dad just decided to stay. his house is still standing but the house 1000 yards away is leveled.
My girlfriend lives in Dahesa, and the scary thing is, you cant tell which way the fire is coming from because its a valley and the sides are to high to get up and look. you have to roll up into alpine to see anything. ive been running around all day helping friends and stuff. mainly my buddies in poway and scripps. my truck is hating life right now.

called 211 for update before going to sleep since its smokey as hell outside, san marcos still under control, olivenhein has recommended evac east of rancho sante fe rd only....so it sounds like that has calmed down a lot. also says all west bound roads west of the I-15 are currently open and the 78 west is open
they said crews are at a house in RSF on a street called calle con pisco, but I dont know the street and the lady sounded like she was having trouble pronouncing it so I think it might havebeen Calle Camposeco which is just south of Del Dios

If it's Calle Camposeco, that near Trevor Hoffmans house in Fairbanks Ranch. I didnt know the flames had made it that far towards the coast.
