Oil pump gears

I looked through your site and didn't see anything about oil pumps. Can you guys get billet oil pump gears for the 4.6?

Yea I can, but, I have been consistently hearing about them failing, and most builders recommend to use the stock Cobra's pump. Cheaper and seem to hold up the best.

Aren't the Cobra pumps still powdered metal? I'm not sure how I'd feel about that when spinning a stroker crank to 7K. I've thought about getting the Melling pump. It has steel gears.

I'm not sure if the Cobra pump uses powdered metal gears, but I will check on that for you. I can however get you either the MMR race pump or the Melling one if need be. For some reason though, they have this disclaimer on their pumps stating basically it's not their fault if your engine fails due to the use of either of these pumps. I have spoke with Greg at TP alot about this, and he swears by the Cobra pumps being better than any of the aftermarket ones. I know he had a 1400+hp car running one. Procharged F3R 5.4 based motor with ported GT heads and about 40psi.

I'll stay away from the MMR. Just personal preference. I like Melling because my friends and I had good luck running them on 351W and 460's. That isn't to say that the 4.6 pump is the best out there, but it does make me feel better to go with a company I've used before.
