Default Route 66 cruise Memorial Weekend

How many of you would be interested in a weekend cruise down RTE 66 the weekend of Memorial Day (May 23/24). Maybe out to the Grand Canyon or Flagstaff. We could take RTE 66 out and I-40 back or I-40 out and 66 back. I'd say leave the morning of the 23rd (Sat) and come back the 24th. Plenty of time with most having Monday off. Cruised 66 back from the Grand Canyon last year and it was just a cool vibe even in the wifes explorer. So whos up for it. You got two months to save for gas money. We can even get other clubs, like the guys who show for the MAC/DPR cruises.

If you vote or voted, let me know if your interested in the cruise or if your just a button mashing froot loop.

All I have to say is ROCK CHIPS. I rode that on my Harley and I was pelted with rocks the whole time.

Ive added the poll to see what everyone would like to do. Hitting the Grand Canyon would add time depending on how long we stay. If we want to go to the GC we need to take 66 out. This would give us Sunday to visit and drive back. Its about 7 hours from the GC to Carlsbad driving I-40, so we wouldn't be home till late sunday or early monday morning. Hopefully this shouldn't be a problem for most since monday should be a day off. Im making some maps for the route 66 part to see how long that will take. Looks like from Just the route 66 part (Barstow to Williams or Flagstaff) will take seven to eight hours. Keep in mind this is just the drive with no stops. Stopping eat or sight seeing change this greatly. The drive from Carlsbad to Barstow will be about 2.5 hours. We need to get a good plan by the first week of May so we can check up on hotels. I'm sure the GC will be pretty crowded that weekend, so lets get this rollin.

POLLS HAVE BEEN CLOSED!!!!
ALL MAPS ARE NOW ON POST #45. WE WILL BE FOLLOWING RT 66 FROM VICTORVILLE, CA TO WILLIAMS, AZ AND VISITING THE GRAND CANYON ON SUNDAY.

Sounds cool and I'd love to do it except that I plan to do all of Route 66 from Chicago to LA in September, so I'll just wait.

The section north of Oatman is pretty cool.

Just a thought. To me, Flagstaff is just like any other old city. Sedona, on the other hand...check into it.

Flagstaff was just an easy option for those that didn't want to hit the Canyon. Figured it would have a little night life and plenty of rooms. Plus its on 66 and I-40. It looks right now that people are picking to go to the Canyon though. We could do both, drive out to Flagstaff via 66 and stay Saturday night. Sunday hit the Canyon and back home via I-40. Ill look into Sedona also.

FYI if you're planning on corner carving the section north of Oatman... don't. The road surface is old, the road is narrow, and it's just pretty precarious in general. Plus there are always slow old folks driving in/out of Oatman. It's not dangerous to drive at normal speeds but you can't go flying through there like Palomar Mtn or something.

I agree 10000%. But there was a cliff that overlooks the road below and out towards the plains. I was going to film the cars coming up and around the mountains. We were only doing 15 -30 tops in my wifes explorer. But just having the cars rumble through in first would be pretty sweet. I'll get some speed shots on some of the straight aways out in the boonies.
